About the data. The comparison uses the municipal engine's verified time series — the same figures, definitions and sources as the municipal pages. For every metric we use the latest period in which all selected municipalities have a verified value. If no common period exists the metric is omitted entirely; nothing is imputed and years are never mixed within a row.

Compare municipalities — method, units and sources

Method & limitations

  • All compared municipalities are shown for the same year per indicator. Where an indicator is missing '—' is displayed.
  • Units are fixed per row (percent, SEK, count per 1,000). Rows never mix units within the same column.
  • The national mean is the source's own national row (SCB / Kolada / Migrationsverket) — not an average of municipalities.
  • Ranking or best/worst colours are only used where the indicator has a clear direction (e.g. upper-secondary eligibility, higher is better).
  • Net cost is a model estimate: Ruist's 74,000 SEK/year × arrivals 2020–2024 / population. Not official municipal accounts.
  • The clear button resets selections. URL parameters make the comparison shareable.

Definitions

How the numbers are counted — and what they do not cover

Per capita / per 1,000 / per 100,000
Normalising an absolute number by population size, so municipalities of different sizes can be compared. Shootings, for example, are usually reported per 100,000 inhabitants.
Median vs mean
The median is the middle value in a sorted series. The mean is the sum divided by the count and is much more sensitive to outliers. Incomes and wealth are therefore usually reported as medians.
Ranking & percentile
The ranking is the municipality's place in the sorted list of all 290 municipalities. The percentile is the share below the municipality — rank 29 of 290 ≈ the 90th percentile.Ties use shared ranking (e.g. two municipalities both at rank 10).
