Series break 2018: On 1 July 2018 the new sexual offences legislation (the consent law) entered into force. Brå's table simultaneously reports new offence types (negligent rape, negligent sexual assault) for 2018–2019, which affects comparability within Chapter 6. (Brå)
Series break 2022: Brå: ”Våldtäkt mot flicka under 15 år – i maj 2022 registrerades ett enskilt ärende i region Öst som omfattade ca 500 brott.” A single large case can alone explain a shift in levels. (Brå)

Reported offences (Brå), suspected persons, prosecutions and court decisions are counted in different systems, with different units (offences vs. persons), different reference years and different delimitations. Dividing one by the other produces a number that means nothing.
Each stage will be published separately, with its own unit and its own source, when every figure has been verified against the primary source. Until then no stage figure is published here.

Extracts from the criminal records register are issued by the Swedish Police. Schools and preschools have a statutory duty to check; other activities involving children may request an extract but the rules differ. The Police describe which extract applies in each case.

The file is discovered from Brå's own statistics page, checksummed, parsed row by row on the exact pair (legal basis, offence type), validated and compared with the last known good file before anything is written. If any step fails, nothing is written and the previous verified data remains.
No. The statistics measure reports registered with the police, customs or prosecutors. The level is affected by reporting propensity, legislative changes, police operations, and how many offences a single case is split into. Reported offences can therefore rise without the number of committed offences rising — and vice versa.
Brå does not report every offence type every year. When the source states that a figure is missing, "–" is shown here. A missing figure is never rewritten as zero.
The same report can appear in several reported rows, and the rows define the victim's age differently. A sum of our own would double-count. That is why each offence type is published separately.
Brå states in the source file that during spring 2023, large numbers of reported child pornography offences were registered as a result of a special operation, and that the offences originate from several years. The level that year therefore reflects a registration effort, not a comparable year's level of crime.
